Adam Croot of Art Empire Industries shared this IM chat he had with a developer he was working with in India:
developer: especially your basecamp idea was ausome
me: do you like using Basecamp now then?
developer: yes
developer: its a very good thing
developer: everything is organized at one place
developer: and I really like it .. and want to use it everytime
developer: it saves a lot of time
me: haha indeed, we will be using it for all projects here in the future
developer: i mean its less complex
developer: the best part of basecamp is its less complex
me: indeed! and it does everything it needs to and it does it well
developer: yes and interface is also great
Adam writes, "This project was plagued with problems and lack of direction, but with major help from Basecamp and a few late nights catching up, we got to the end!"
We asked him to tell us more about how he uses Basecamp to collaborate with his worldwide team. Details below.
Our company, is based in London, we make up about 20 employees, the technical team (designers & developers) make up 5 of those people. Our CEO, designer, interaction designer and 2 developers (One in India, and myself). We have a developer in India who works for us. This means there is a period in the day where he is asleep, or I am asleep. We can leave tasks, work and updates for each other so when he wakes up, he knows where I am and vice-versa. In addition to him, our Designer spends around 90% of his time off site, so we are a small team spread out that gets a fair bit of time away from each other to just get things done.
We also no longer have to suffer situations of "Oh did you get the email with the updated PSD in?" Well no, because someone forgot to copy me in and they're now on holiday for 2 weeks. Everything is on Basecamp, we know it's there, there is nowhere else for it to be.We can all communicate in an efficient way and if we need to discuss or share something about a project, it goes on Basecamp. No longer are we searching our Inbox for Photoshop designs, snippets of source code or finding out what happened to a task. We all simply log onto Basecamp and there is everything we need, in one place. It's that simple.
Basecamp allows us to connect with each other in an efficient, productive way and collaborate on what we do. As important as that, it also allows us to disconnect from the world (IM, Email, Phone) and focus on the work at hand.
