Victor Espigares of vi.sualize.us, a site that lets you "freely bookmark the pictures you love," is a fan of Getting Real. Here's why:
Just want to thank you for your great book. I'm the one behind vi.sualize.us, a social bookmarking site focus on visual content. visualizeus helps people to keep track of the images they love and share them with others.
I developed the site in five months using only my spare time (nights, holidays...) and $0 budget. And when I was in the initial-mid stage of the development, I accidentally stumbled on Getting Real. I had heard about your company of course, but didn't know you've wrote a book.
With curiosity, I started to read it and after a few chapters I couldn't believe how lucky I was: a lot of the questions I was doing myself during the development, could finally have answers, or at least guidance! Your book came in at the right moment, completely out of the blue.
If I have to choose only one thing between all that I've learned when developing this project, no doubt I would choose the skill to cut things where they have to be cut. A lot of times I've found myself being such a perfectionist. And in a one-man project that's a very hard handicap to getting the thing real. That's what your book taught me, and that's what I'm trying not to forget!
For me the book gathers a whole philosophy. Sure you can read it like separate essays, but the really interesting thing is the change of perspective it can offer you when read from cover to cover. You can say it helps people to think in an agile way, and not only when coding.
No doubt, I'll recommend it. Sometimes when you're in the middle of a project, you easily lose the focus without realizing, especially if you're on your own. Getting Real helps you with that, and not only when developing it, but after releasing too.
